Another day with the ladies at the center

Hello dear readers,

Today was my third time with the ladies.  We made flowers, lots of flowers.

This is what took about three hours to create.

As you know, this center is for elderly people, some of them are recuperating from strokes or orthopedic problems which handicap them. I  had to find a way of making flowers which
will be easy for them.

This is the method I thought of and it proved successful.  We stiffened a green thick embroidery thread with tacky glue.  While it dried, we punched out green paper bases.  The thread was dry before we finished punching the bases.
The stiffened thread was cut into stems.  each stem was dipped slightly into the glue and then stuck to the green base.

We perforated a styrofoam food container with a barbeque screw and placed the stems to dry
in the holes.

When dry, the stems were pushed right inside.

Now we were able to glue the flower firmly on top of each stem.

A tiny piece of yellow felt was rolled into a ball and glued to the center of each flower. (We
wanted to add color but painting with a brush was too complicated.)

When dry, and this took only a few minutes, the flower was pushed out.

I am so proud of my pupils....

Next Tuesday I'll not be able to teach.  There will be a workshop with my fellow miniaturists and we
are going to make chairs.  It will be held at Goldie's place and I hope to be able to show you her
latest works.  But there are going to be many more Tuesdays at the center.  I enjoy working
with these people more and more each time we meet.

A very warm welcome to two new followers, Florina and ToTylko.  Thank you for following.

Blessings to you all.

  1. Es estupendo el trabajo que están haciendo ellos el y el que estás haciendo tu.

  2. It is very nice of you to teach ladies with health issues. May God reward you. The flowers are very pretty too.

  3. You have been very thoughtful and creative helping people with challenges to discover the joy of creating their own miniatures! Blessings Drora

  4. So pretty! I have everything I need to make mini flowers except for patience!

  5. Дорогая Drora!

  8. Hello Drora,
What a great project. I am sure the ladies loved it and it must be nice to get their mind off things. It is a beautiful project and a beautiful act of yours to take time to figure out a project they can do.
    Big hug,

  9. Beautiful flowers! The ladies are great artists.

  10. What a great idea to use this system! Love the flowers, very colourful!

  11. querida dora la tengo abandonada, pero por fin tengo algo de tiempo para ver que usted sigue siendo una de mis artitas en miniatura favoritas, y veo que hace un magnifico trabajo con sus alumnos que seguro que la adoran

  12. Wonderful results... you're pupils are very talented - but they also have a wonderful teacher! You're doing a great job... and the more you'll get to know each other, the better you can foresee what they can do and what not. Yes, it takes some planning, but I bet you're paid back with joy and happiness from your ladies. And another miniature meeting in sight, how exciting - I'm wishing you loads of fun! Oh, and before I forget it once more - you've asked me about the aluminium foil, how I glue it. I'm using my trusty white craft glue (usually craft glue from UHU, but whenever I'm needing bigger amounts I'm using a cheaper one in a big bottle, a homebrand from German online-shop for crafter's which is VBS). Just a good amount of glue and enough time for drying and it works... at least my Witch Tower is still standing... *LOL*
