Hello dear readers,
The Hebrew Calendar has 12 (sometimes 13) months a year. Each month has a name. "TU" means the middle of a month. Shvat is the name of the month in which the feast of the trees is always celebrated. (I already explained about this feast in my post on January 2022) Sadly, this year too, children were unable to go out to plant trees in the woods as expected. We experienced BARBARA and one of the coldest, stormy, rainy days of this winter exactly on the day of the feast.
On Sunday, the day before the storm, a class of college youngsters came to visit the daycare center and offered cakes made by themselves. They also helped decorate and plant pansies in little plastic pots gifted to all the members of the center. The following photos show my experiments in making a tiny paper version of the real flower. I'll show my attempts to the ladies in the Center. If they'll like it we can start making more together. I'll supply the cut-outs.

It's really very late to show the gifts I received for Christmas. There were many other gifts from family and friends and there's still one to come from overseas.
Megan sent me a very large box of wonderful treasures. The items you'll see are all involved with miniatures.

Another very special and useful gift is from my daughter Galia, an iPhone case Galia embroidered for me. Sometimes when I don't wear clothes with pockets in them it's hard to hear my phone that is not next to me ringing. My daughters worry when I don't answer their calls. Now no more excuses left.

Hi Drora! It is lovely to hear about all of the wonderful things going on for the residents at the center, and so sweet to hear that young adult volunteers are sharing their creativity! The flowers and pots are such a ray of sunshine, and your mini versions are splendid! It is funny how our children become our parents as we get older - a little payback for the worrying they caused us, perhaps? Lol! The phone case is beautiful! Hugs!

The mini pansies turned out perfect. If you took a bigger photo of them, no-one could tell that they are a miniature.

Dear Drora, Your tiny pansies are wonderful! They look so cheerful and beautiful! We call them "Johnny jump-ups" over here because they self-seed and sprout in odd places. The gifts from Megan are a treasure trove! Blog friends are so special! And your daughter made a beautiful case!
ReplyDeleteOops, I'm very late this time... but not too late to admire your pansies. The photo with the big and the tiny one are priceless... I swear I heard the tiny one saying "Wait until I'm older... and bigger!" *LOL* Btw my language is not very kind to these beautiful spring flowers. We call the small ones like the ones you received "Hornveilchen" (= horn violets) and sadly our word for pansies is "Stiefmütterchen" (= stepmother). I like the American "Johnny jump-up" Betsy mentioned much more! *LOL*
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see that Megan's gifts finally arrived... and it's even better that mine finally arrived in the meantime. *hooray* But the best thing is the fabulous phone holder, even more as Galia's work is stunning! And it's of course more touching to have something handmade instead of simply buying it. But as you already said: No more excuses for not answering calls! ;O)
