Burlap baskets

 Hello dear readers

Although I'm teaching how to make miniatures, I still don't have enough pupils to justify spending funds on craft materials.  I spent a lot of time trying to come up with ideas on how to use available cheap stuff for crafting and recycling.

Here is what we managed to create last week, at no cost, except for the white plastic glue that I supplied from my own stock. The burlap was a left-over scrap, also from my stock.

I forgot to take photos of the way the baskets were made. You can figure it out for yourselves, or if anyone is interested, I'll make a step-by-step tutorial.  All the baskets in the photo are made out of glue stiffened burlap. We pulled out lengths of threads before stiffening the burlap to make the handles and for trimming the ends.  The knitting needles are tiny colored foam balls pierced into straight sewing pins.

Remember the poster from my previous post here? There was enough card paper left to make 10 more pitchers.

I wish all my followers and readers a happy, enjoyable weekend with blessings.

  2. The baskets look lovely and thank you for your tip for the thread spool labels!
How many pupils do you need to justify spending money on craft supplies?
Not very much is needed to make miniature items. In one of our club meetings
we used streamers to make cups, plates, jars, etc. and painted them as they usually
come in multiple colors. Here's a link to what we did

(We typically use streamers during May Day celebrations).

  7. Hi Drora! You are a very generous person, who not only shares her creativity with your elderly people, but also her time and big efforts, and also generously sharing your own stock of materials. This all together and your love for others make you to a wonderful person.
These wonderful selfmade baksets, made by your people of the elder care, show us the same of what I described above.
So, thank you for sharing your work in the elder care with us, stay busy and keep making minis!!
Wishing you a blessed and lovely weekend, dear Drora, stay well.
    Hugs, Ilona

  10. Your work with the elderly people is wonderful in every way - and the miniatures being made are stunning. It's so inspiring to see what one can do even with a few more candles burning on the birthday cake. *smile* And I think it adds to the fascination that you have to "use what you have" - this way it shows even better what our hobby can be: Transforming every-day items into miniature versions of things - like your beautiful baskets.

    Hugs

  11. I think it's clever to use readily available stock intstead of buying new material. Everything cost more nowadays. It's a good way to also get rid of the unused stock! The creations are lovely and so well made!
