Spring cleaning

Dear readers,

As the weather allows it, people, including myself, are busy giving their home a thorough cleaning, preparing for the holidays. It reminds me that I still keep an almost antique, before vacuum cleaners, cleaning accessory, a carpet beater.  It's quite a pretty wicker thing which at its time caused many quarrels between neighbors. Imagine the wrath of one housewife after laboring hard to finish cleaning her home when the neighbors above beat their rugs and carpets and the dust enters right into her clean apartment.

I was asked to show the ladies at the nursing home how I make a miniature carpet beater. Made
several for their Bingo.

These R/L one and the miniatures are made from wicker.

For showing how it's done, I'll use thin plastic coated wires.

Happy cleaning and blessings

  2. Oh yes... going back and forth with the neighbors. Makes me like my pets even more.

I love the carpet beaters though. Perfect for the mini housewife in the spring.

  5. Yes, I do remember this sort of carpet beater of my Mom, and her spring cleaning too. I also have one in real life and I'm still using it. I love your miniature carpet beaters, Drora, great work.
Blessings, wishing you a nice weekend!

  10. I have an old carpet beater too! I use it sometimes, but we live in the woods, so I don't get dust on anything but myself 😊. Your tiny ones are adorable! Blessings, Pam in Norway

  13. It's interesting that you can beat rugs at your own balcony. In Finland if you live in a flat, some older buildings have special "cleaning" balconies so that the dust won't land on anyone else's balcony and more typically there is a place in the common yard next to the building with a rug beating thingy - I don't know what it is in English but we call it a rug beating rack. Behind this link you can see a photo of such a rack. https://tiny.cc/dap54y

  14. That would be terrible if you just cleaned your apartment and then someone cleaned their carpet. .That's so interesting that in Finland they have a special place for the rug beating thingy!

  15. Your carpet beaters look awesome - of course your miniature ones but also your real one is a beauty. According to me these look so good that I wonder how they would look in a garden as a decorative element perhaps with a bow and some ornaments - or as an aid for rambling plants. I too remember those rug beating racks from my childhood… my, vacuum cleaners are so much more comfortable… but not as beautiful as your carpet beaters. I bet the ladies really liked them.
